The Campus - Edhec Approach to Learning
At Fondazione Campus Studi del Mediterraneo, great emphasis is laid on learning as a process of personal and professional development of the individual. Learning is considered as a highly committal activity closely related to professional involvement of successful business people. The Edhec- Campus approach is based on three principles:
1. Active involvement of participants in the learning process
At Edhec- Campus participants in post-graduate programmes help create an active learning atmosphere. Teaching is highly interactive and participants’ questions and contributions are essential to creating intellectual capital. The MBA Programme is particularly based on active participation.
Reading, case preparation, research and consulting activities are done by participants outside contact sessions with the faculty in order to acquire a solid theoretical foundation and to put participants in control of their own learning. In-class time is devoted, above all, to exchange between class members themselves and with the instructor or course leader. The goal of such exchanges is to develop managerial judgment. Managers are decision-makers and the goal of the Edhec- Campus Executive MBA Programme is to train the habit of making enlightened decisions.
2. Excellence of both individual and team contributions
Team-building and team-learning are fundamental in the Edhec- Campus Executive MBA experience.
Participants will be assigned to a team by the MBA Programme Coordinator at the beginning of each semester. Teams will be changed at the beginning of each semester to develop participants’ team and relational skills so needed in the teamwork characterizing modern organizations. Changing teams frequently teaches participants to quickly adapt to new personal styles.
Many projects and presentations performed by Executive MBA participants will usually be assigned on a team basis. Yet, the quality of team work depends on the seriousness of each individual’s efforts.
Each member of the team is expected to do his or her share of the preparation, so that team output is of the highest quality. To reflect this fundamental principal, all course evaluation includes at least one individual assignment or exam to ensure measurement of individual performance. Participation grades are also individual. Individual evaluation will make up at least 50% of each course grade.
3. Partnership in learning with the faculty
Research and consulting projects are major aspects of the Edhec- Campus MBA Programme. Although such projects require great autonomy and follow-through capability from participants, they are carried out under the guidance of EDHEC faculty. Teaching staff from all the Departments is available to help participants choose projects, structure their research and reports, provide bibliographical references and constructive criticism as the projects develop. One faculty supervisor will be appointed to oversee each consulting or research project.
